One of the delights of marrying people in our beautiful church is that they want to have their children blessed, christened or baptised here too.
1. Baptism as a thankyou and a blessing for the child. It is always good to give thanks for the creation of a new life. Children are a precious gift from God and we must remember that not everyone can have children. Nor can everyone make the promises involved in Baptism. However, we can all unite in wanting to say ‘Thank you for the birth of the child’. We would also seek God’s blessing on the child and want to dedicate the parents to the high calling of parenthood.
2. Baptism of infants where the baptism involves a promise by one or both the parents to bring up their children in the Christian faith and in the life of the Church wherever they happen to live.
3. Baptism on personal confession of faith by older children and adults who have not previously been baptised as an infant.
We encourage parents who want a Baptism for their child to come along to our Early Bird Family Service on the second Sunday of each month at 10.00 a.m. This gives an opportunity for us all to get know each other. Also a further conversation with the minister can be arranged.
All baptisms take place as part of the Sunday Services. This is important because the congregation share in the promises made for whoever is baptised. Baptism is also a welcoming of the baptised into the family of God in the church and our continuing pledge to support them in the life of faith.
Those seeking Baptism are very welcome to email our Church Secretary Hilary Scott (robin.scott1@sky.com) or telephone us on (01202) 290161
